Solo show at Mashrabia gallery, Cairo, 2015.
A painting series exploring the soft body’s relationship with harsh surroundings, drawing particularly from three spaces of the manmade world; factories, hospitals and bedrooms, as reflections of the body’s interior processes or in contrast with them.
Visually referenced from sci-fi novels and internet images the spontaneous painting method captures aspects that are both intentional and specifically happening within the sheer experience of painting, encouraging a dialogue between canvas and artist. Abstract, organic shapes appear to be constantly changing, challenging the wholeness of the canvas and caught in a ‘never ending and always becoming’ process. It is configured as a map of reality: indeed, everything happens on the skin, causing tension and fusion internally and externally.
